CH 7 cell structure

vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
cell are basic units of life
cell theory all living things are made by cell, cells are the basic unit of structure, new cells are produced by old cells
nucleus a large membrane that carries the cells genetic information, DNA
eukaryote cells that have a nucleus
prokaryote cells that donmt have a nucleus
orangelle specilized organs, little organs
cytoplasm the portion of the cell outside the nucleus
nuclear envelope what surrounds the nucleus
chromatin the granular material you see in the nucleus
chromosomes thread like things that contain DNA
nucleolus where the assembly of ribosomes begin
ribosomes smal particules of Rna found in the cell
endoplasmic reticulum the internal membrane eukaryotes have
golgi apparatus proteins produced in rou8gh ER move next into an organell
lysosome are small organells filled with enzymes
vacuole sack like structures that store water salts fats etc
mitochondrion are organells that convert the chemical energy stored in all food
chloroplast organells taht capture energy from the sunlight and convert it to energy
cytoskeleton the internal organiszation that eukaryotes have
centriole help to organize cell division
cell membrane thin felxible barrier around the cell
cell wall a strong supportive layer around the cell
lipid bilayer the composition of are cell wall are this
concentration the amount of a solute in a solvent
diffusion when particles move to areas with a less concentration
equilibrium when the amount of solute is egaul through the whole system
osmosis is tyhe diffsion of water through a membrane
isotonic when water and sugar are the same and have the same levels
hypertonic when there is a higher concentration of sugar is water
hypotonic the diluted sugar is below stregth
facilitated diffusion the diffusion of glucose through a membrane
active transport moving some particle away denying the concentration
endocytosis taking material in to cells
phagocyosis extension of cytoplasm surrounded the nucleus
pinocytosis tiny pockets form vacuoles within cells
exocytosis the membrane of vacoules surrounding the material fusses with the cell membrane
cell specialzation cells throughout the organism can develop in different ways to perform differnt tasks
tissue is a group of similar cells that perform the same task
organ tissues working together make this
organ system a ggroup of organs working together to perform a specific function

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
