FSA Chapter 3 Section 1 Study Guide
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Mixture | Combination of substances in which individual substances retain their own properties. |
| Organic Compounds | Contain carbon and hydrogen and are usually associated with living things. |
| Enzymes | Proteins that regulate nearly all chemical reactions in cells. |
| 4 Organic Compounds | Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic Acids |
| Inorganic Compounds | Made up of elements other than carbon and contain fewer atoms than organic molecules |
| 5 Inorganic Compounds | Water, Calcium Phosphate, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium bicarbonate, Salts |
| Importance of Water | Living things are made up of more than 50% water. |
| Matter | Matter is anything that has mass and is made up of atoms. Protons(positive) are in the nucleus with the neutrons(neutral), and the electrons(negative) surrounds them. |
| Energy | Ability to cause change |
| Element | When something is made up of one kind of atom |
| Molecular Compounds | Form when different atoms share their outermost electrons |
| Ions | Electrically charged atoms-positive or negative. |
| Ionic Compounds | Ions of opposite charges attract one another to form electrically neutral compounds |
| Solutions | Most chemical reactions take place in these mixtures and where two or more substances are mixed evenly. |
