Water Cycle Vocab

| Hydrosphere | all the water around and on the Earth, as solid, liquid and gas |
| Evaporation | the process where matter turns from a liquid to a gas |
| Runoff | water that moves across the Earth's surface, often from rivers and streams into lakes and oceans |
| Condensation | the process where matter changes from a gas to a liquid |
| Density | the amount of matter in a given space |
| Water Vapor | water is a gaseous form |
| Precipitation | water that falls from clouds in liquid or solid form |
| Cloud | a collection of water droplets that are suspended in the air |
| Relative Humidity | the amount of water vapor in the air compared to the amount of water vapor that the air can hold, in a percent |
| cirrus | high altitude, wispy clouds, often of ice particles |
| stratus | grey, blanket clouds that cover a large amount of the sky |
| cumulus | puffy, cottonball type clouds, indicate generally good weather |
| sleet | precipitation that begins as liquid, but freezes as it falls through cold layers of air |
| nimbo- or nimbus | means that the cloud is a precipitation forming cloud |
| freezing rain | precipitation that falls as a liquid but freezes upon contact with the Earth's surface |
