What Do Plants Need?

QuestionAnswer
root The part of a plant that grows underground and takes water and nutrients from the soil.
nutrients The parts of the soil that help plants grow and stay healthy.
stem The part of a plant that grows above ground and helps hold the plant up. It also carries water and nutrients up to the leaves.
leaf The part of a plant that grows out of the stem and is where a plant makes food.
seed The first stage of life for many plants.
deciduous Relating to plants that lose all their leaves at about the same time every year.
evergreen A plant that stays green and makes food all year long.
photosynthesis The process that plants use to make sugar.
chlorophyll The green substance inside leaves that helps a plant use light energy to make food.
