Name effects of immobility on the respiratory system: hypostatic pneumonia is a real threat. Atelectasis (lung atrophy from incomplete expansion), impaired coughing.
Name effects of immobility on the musculoskeletal system: Atrophy, contracture, ankylosis (immobility of a joint)osteoporosis (lack of stress on bone causes an increase in calcium)
Name effects of immobility on the nervous system: altered sensation, lack of feeling, peripheral nerve palsy

Active Assistive 2)Patient performs but has assistance from nurse
Active 3)patient does all alone to increase strength
Resistive 4)pulling or pushing against something
Isometric flex and relax muscles while in a fixed position.
Flexion state of being bent
Extension state of being in a straight line
hyperextension exaggerated extension
Abduction to move a limb AWAY from the body
Adduction to move a limb toward (ADD) the body
Rotation movement around an axis (like saying NO)
circumduction the whole enchilada (like arm circles)
supination palms or soles turned upward (Soup Please)
pronation palms or sole turned downward
How often should ROM exercises be done? At least two times a day.
What do you include in ROM documentation? evaluate in terms of fatigue, discomfort, and joint mobility.
