To test for a culture to utilize starch is detected by...... the addition of grams iodine in a culture grown in the presence of starch. Bracillus cereus is positieve
proteolysis- two methods to detect it.... gelatin agar- culture digests gelatin to a liquid - Pseudomonas aeruginosa milk agar- digests casein and goes from milky white agar to clear: Bracillus cereus
Fat usage or lipolysis is dectected by using a tributyrin agar will be cloudy but when cuture uses fat it is clear: Pseudomonas aeruginosa

ex. 15 Know proceure steps 3-5 Nitrate broth: Sulfanic Acid and a-Saphthylamine are added. This causes red, but if there is no reaction then we put Zinc in to prove that NO3 has not reduced

Ex. 17 Know which procedure steps 3, 4 Select one tube of each organism. Test for Acid production - add methyl red. red color indicates a low pH and a positive methyl red test. 4. Add a dropper fulll of a-naphthol to other tubs. Ad dropper full of KOH to tubes. pink/red + acetylmethylcarbinol
Ex. 17 Know results for each organism Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenes E. coli is positive for Methyl red and negative for VP Enterobacter aerogenes is positive for VP and negative is Methyl Red.
