what is a cell? A cell is the smallest unit that can perform all life processes; cells are covered by a cell membrane and have DNA and cytoplasm
what is a stimulus? anything that causes a reaction or change in an organism or any part of an organism
what is homeostasis? The maintenance of a constant internal state in a changing environment
what is sexual reproduction? Reproduction in which the sex cells from two parents unite, producing an offspring that shares traits from both parents
what is asexual reproduction? Reproduction that does not involve the union of sex cells and in which one parent produces offspring identical to itself
what is heredity? The passing of genetic traits from one parent to offspring
what is a producer? A producer is an organism that can make food from its surroundings
what is a consumer? a consumer is an organism that eats other organisms or organic matter
what is a decomposer? An organism that gets energy by breaking down the remains of dead organisms or animal wastes and consuming or adsorbing the nutrients
what is a protein? A molecule that is made up of amino acids and that is needed to build and repair body structures and to regulate processes in the body
what is a carbohydrate? A class of energy giving nutrients that includes sugars, starches, and fiber; contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
what is a lipid? A lipid is a type of biochemical that does not dissolve in water; fats and steroids are lipids
what is a phospholipid? a lipid that contains phosphorus and that is a structural component in cell membranes
what is the ATP? Adenosine trophosphate, a molecule that acts as the main energy source for cell processes
what is a nucleic acid? A molecule made up of subunits called nucleotides
what are the necessities of life? water, air, food, and a place to live
if it is cold out how would your body respond? your body would respond by shivering
if it is too warm how might your body respond? your body might respond by sweating
what are the 6 characteristics of living things? living things have cells, living things sense and respond to change,living things reproduce, living things have DNA, living things use energy, and living things grow and develop

what are simple carbohydrates? one sugar molecule or a few sugar molecules linked together
complex carbohydrates are? hundreds of sugar molecules linked together

how does a phospholipid make a cell membrane? the head of the phospholipid is attracted to water but the rail is not this creates a natural barrier around the cell wall
what is another name for a nucleic acid? nucleotides
what are enzymes? proteins that start or speed up chemical processes
what is a molecule? a molecule is a substance created when two or more atoms combine
what are compounds? compounds are made up of different kinds of atoms
what does the protein hemoglobin do? it binds oxygen to deliver and release oxygen throughout the body
