| Enkephalins | Opioids that are widespread throughout the brain and dorsal horn of the spinal cord and are believed to reduce pain sensation by inhibiting the release of substance P. |
| Opioids | Narcotic analgesics such as morphine and codeine. |
| Analgesics | Pharmaceutical agent used to relieve pain. The 3 classes are nonopioids, opioids, and adjuvants. |
| Ajuvant Analgesics | Enhance the effect of nonopioids, help alleviate other symptoms that aggrevate pain(depression,seizures,inflammation) and are useful for treating neuropathic pain. |
| Nonopioids | Acetaminophen, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs), are appropriate for treating mild to moderate pain. |
