| Hypothesis | a proposed answer or explanation to the question that can be tested. |
| Experiment | a procedure which is used to test a hypothesis. |
| Independent Variable | the variable that is manipulated / changed in an experiment. |
| Dependent Variable | the condition that responds to the independent variable in an experiment. |
| Constants | the factors that do not change in an experiment. |
| Control Group | the part of an experiment which is not exposed to the independent variable. |
| Experimental Group | the part of the experiment that is exposed to the independent variable. |
| Controlled Experiment | an experiment that contains both a control group and experimental group. |
| Data | the collection of scientific facts during an experiment. |
| Statistics | a mathematical way of evaluating data. |
| Graph | help analyze and make data that is collected in an experiment visual. |
| Bar Graph | used to compare groups or variables of an experiment. |
| Line Graph | helpful for showing change of something when exposed to varying levels of the independent variable. |
| Inversely Proportional | a relationship where as one variable increases or decreases the other variable does the opposite. |
| Directly Proportional | a relationship where as one variable increases or decreases the other variable does the same. |
| Pie Graph | helpful for showing the parts of a whole, with the whole being 100% of the group. |
| Conclusion | part of an experiment where you must either accept or reject your hypothesis; this should always be based on the data that was collected and analyzed. |
| Theory | a well tested explanation of why a broad set of observations occur. |
| Scientific Law | a concise statement that summarizes the results of many observations and experiments. |
