Cell Structure and Function

QuestionAnswer
What is the observations and conclusions of scientists? Cell Theory
What 3 things do the cell theory state? 1. All living things are composed of cells 2. Cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things. 3. All cells come from preexisting cells
What are the certain structures that are common to most cells? The cells of animals, plants, and related organisms have three basic structures: the cell membrane, or outer boundary of the cell; the nucleus, or control center; and the cytoplasm, or material between the cell membrane and the nucleus.
What cells are all separated from their surroundings by a cell? A cell membrane
What is a organism like plants, algae, and some bacteria that surrounds this? A cell wall
What is the large dark structure? Nucleus
What organism that lacks nuclei? Prokaryotes
What is the organism whose cells contain nuclei? Eukaryotes
What surrounds the nucleus that have two membranes that form what? Nuclear envelope
The most nuclei contain a small region called what? Nucleolus
The DNA in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells is attached to special proteins and forms large structures called what? Chromosomes
We can divide the space within a cell into two compartments called what? the Nucleus and the Cytoplasm
The area between the nucleus and the cell membrane is? Cytoplasm
the structure in the cytoplasm is? organelles
What are the two key organelles that change energy from one form to another? Mitochondrion and Chloroplast
The structures in which proteins are made of? Ribosomes
The cells that are filled with a complex network of sacs is? Endoplasmic Reticulum
The protein that is first moved into special compartments is? Golgi apparatus
The foreign material that is digester and broken down? Lysosomes
Plant Organelles that may take many forms is? Plastids
Skeleton composed of a variety of filaments and fibers that supports cell structures. cytoskeleton
