QuestionAnswer
Observation information collected w/ the 5 senses
Inference conclusions or deductions based on observations.
Quantitative measurable amount
Qualitative describable, not measurable
Independent Variable the factor that is changed in an experiment in order to study changes in the dependent variable.
Dependent Variable factor being measured or observed in an experiment.
Scientific Method a plan of inquiry that uses science process skills as a tool to gather, organize, analyze, and communicate information.
Experiment a procedure that is carried out and repeated under controlled conditions in order to discover, demonstrate, or test a hypothesis; includes all components of the scientific method.
Data Collected information, the results of an experiment or other investigation.
Control Group the group of subjects in an experiment that DOES NOT receives the independent variable, serves as a means for comparison.
Constant (control) factors in the experiment that is kept the same
Conclusion are explanations that are based on evidence from observations.
Analyze to examine carefully and in detail so as to identify causes, key factors, possible results, etc.
Procedure series of steps followed in a regular definite order.
Hypothesis an educated guess; an idea that can be tested by experiment or observation.
