Heart Rate and Fitne

Heart Rate and Fitness (science 30)

QuestionAnswer
Artery (Function) Carry blood AWAY from heart.
Vein (Function) Carry blood TOWARDS heart.
Capillary (Function) Exchange nutrients with cells.
Cardiovascular Training -excersize that improves hearts ability to provide muscles with oxygen. -causes heart to increase in elasticity. Greater elasticity= increased volume of blood pumped per minute= heart more efficient!
Aterties(Structure) -thick,elastic, muscular walls. -Elastic tissue allows them to STRETCH. stretching of arteries can be felt as a pulse.
Pulse stretiching of atreries.
Artioles smaller arteries that blood from arteries passes into.
Capillary transports blood (with dissolved foods and oxygen) to the tissues. -AKA: Transports nutrients to cells!!! ALSO: Transports waste products and CO2 from tissues to blood.
Pulmonary Artery carries deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs.
Aorta -largest artery. -carrys oxygenated blood to lower and upper body.
Coronary Arteries carry oxygen-rich blood from the aorta to nourish the heart tissues.
Capillaries (Structure&WHY?) -MUST be THIN WALLS!!!! This is so that oxygen and other substances needed by cells can diffuse to the tissue cells. ALSO: allows CO2 to diffuse from cells into the blood.
Average person's Blood Pressure: 120/80 (systolic/diastolic)
Systolic Pressure Pressure in the blood vessels when the heart contracts.
Diastolic Pressure Pressure in the heart when the heart relaxes.
