2 Compounds Organic and Inorganic
Organic Living molecules in living things- carbon molecules mainly
Inorganic Non living molecules (carbon inorganic molecules)
Ion A molecule that can dissociate
Ionize To take ions and make separate ex. Salt
Dissociate To take apart
Electrolyte Inorganic molecule; substances that dissolve in water to form ions
Non-electrolyte Substances that do not dissolve in water and do not form ions ex. Sugar
Why does sugar not break down? It is made up of carbon and does not come apart
Carbohydrate CH20; high energy molecule; will not stay with you long
Rough form/pure form of carbohydrate coal/diamond
Monosaccharide 1 sugar
Disaccharide 2 sugars
Polysaccharide Many
Lipids CHO; fat cells (capital "E")
Glycerol 3 carbons linked together
Saturated(hydrogenrated) 1 with fat and lots of hydrogen
Unsaturated 1 double bond
Polyunsaturated More than 2 bonds
Protein CHON; energy molecule- slower to break down
How many amino acids in the body 21
Enzymes cataylsts; which help control reactions-speed up or slows down (helps control metabolism)
Hormones Some are proteins; ex. insulin
Peptide bond hold amino acids together
Peptide chain 1 or more chains that can be made of protein

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
