Scientific Method Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Control Group Group of subjects or conditions used as the standard for comparison of test results in an experiment
Dependent (responding) Variable Factor that changes as a result of changes in the other variables
Experiment Organized procedure for testing a hypohthesis; tests the effect of on thing on another under controlled conditions
Experimental Group Group of subjects exposed to the variable of a control experiment
Hypothesis Educated guess using what you know and what you observe
Independant (manipulated) Variable Factor that, as it changes, affects the measure of another variable
Procedure Series of steps taken to accomplish an end, Step by step recipe (1,2,3,4)
Scientific Method Organized set of investigation procedures that can include stating a problem, forming a hypothesis, researching and gathering data, testing a hypothesis, analyzing data and drawing conclusions
Trial Test or experiment used to determing the public acceptance of something
Variable Factor that can cause a change in the result of an experiment
