Weather terminology

cumulus a puffy and white cloud caused by rising warm air, signals fair weather
Cirrus thin wispy streaks. Made of ice crystals. Signal fair weather

Stratus gray low clouds. Make longer lasting rain or snow

Meteorologist a person who studies weather conditions
Forecast a prediction of weather conditions for future days
Weather the combination of conditions like sun, clouds, rain, wind, humidity, heat, and cold
Thermometer tool used to measure the temperature
Anemometer a tool used to measure wind speed
Hygrometer a tool used to measure humidity
Rain gauge a tool used to collect and measure the amount of rain that falls
Barometer a tool used to measure air pressure
Wind vane a tool used to measure wind direction
Atmosphere the layer of air that surrounds the earth
Humidity the amount of water vapor in the air
Troposphere the layer in which weather happens.
Layer closest to the earth's surface Troposphere
Stratosphere the layer in which the ozone is found
Layer above the troposphere Stratosphere
Mesosphere The layer in which the temperature is very cold
The layer above the stratosphere Mesosphere
Thermosphere the layer farthest from the Earth's surface (top layer)

Cold front form when a cold air mass catches up to a warm air mass
