how to make observations

QuestionAnswer
observation using one or more of your sense to gather information
example observation he made the observation that all the shapes were pink
inference when you explain or interpret thing you observe using pior knowledge
example inference cookies were hard and black so i made the inference that they were burt
prediction make a forecast or hypotheses of what will happen in the future base on past experience or evidence
prediction example the clouds were dark and thunder was rumbling so i made the prediction it was going to rain
science a way of learning about the natural world through observations and logical reasoning; leads to a body of knowledge
science example a branch of science is atronamy
quantitative observation a measurmeant ( an number and a unit)
example quantitative observation 4 ponies
qualitative observation a description of characteristic features or attribute
qualitative example a pink unicorn
scientific inquiry refers to many waysin which scientist study the natural world and purpose explanations based on the evidance they gather.
hypothesis is a possible explanation for a set of observations or answers to a scientific question
controlled experiment a test of hypothesis under conditions established by the scientist
manipulated varible the varible the scientist changes
responding varible changes because of the manipulated varible
scientific inquiry example they made a scientific inquiry that pluto is no longer a planet
hypothesis example if the pole is metal, then the lightning has a better chance of striking it
controlled experiment example the teacher had the kids preform a controlled experiment because he knew what was going to happen and he was not going to let the kids fool around
manipulated varible example the manipulated variable was that the water was salt and not plain water
responding varible example because the water was salt water, the seed did not grow
