Where is the hypothalamus located? in the diencephalon of the brain?
where is the pituitary gland? at the base of the brain.
where is the pineal gland? behind the hypothalamus.
where is the thyroid gland? in the throat.
where is the thymus? on top of the heart.
where is the heart? in the chest.
where are the adrenal glands? on the left of the GI tract and on top of the kidney.
where is the kidney? below the adrenal gland.
where is the GI tract? right of the adrenal glands.
where is pancreatic islets? next to the kidney
where are the testes? in the groin.
what hormones are in the anterior lobe? GH, ACTH, LH
what is GH? growth hormone- stimulates an increase in the size of muscles and bones.
What is ACTH? adrenocorticotropic hormone. stimulates the adrenal cortex to release hormone.
What is LH? luteinizing hormone stimulates ovulation.
what hormones are in the posterior lobe? ADH and OT
What is ADH? antidiuretic hormone stimulates the kidney to conserve water.
What is OT? causes contractions of the uterus. in males causes contraction in the prostate and vas deferens
what does the adrenal gland consist of? the adrenal medulla- secretes epinephrine prepares the body for stressful situations. the adrenal cortex- secretes aldosterone ad cortisol.
what does the pancreas produce? insulin and glucagon.
what does the hormone melatonin play a role in? puberty.
What can stress do to you? cause the release of cortisol. cortisol slows dowm the body repair.
what is the parathyroid glands? small glands that are embedded into the posterior surface of the thyroid gland.
