ecosysytem All the living and non-living things that interact in an area
population All the members of one species in one particular area
community All the different populations that live together in one area
ecology The study of how living things interact with each other and thier environment
abiotic factor A non-living part of an ecosystem
habitat The place where an organism lives and that provides the things the organism
biotic factor A living part of an ecosystem
population density The number of individuals in a specific area
estimate An approximation of a number based on reasonable assumptions
birth rate The number of births in a population in a certain amount of time
death rate The number of deaths in a population in a certain amount of time
emigration Leaving a population
immigrattion Moving into a population
limmiting factor An environmental factor prevents a population from increasing
carying capacity The largest population that an area can support
niche An organism's particular role in an ecosystem, or how it makes a living
competition The struggle between organisms for the limited resources in a habitat
predation An interaction in wich one organism hunts and kills another animal for fun
predator A carnivore that hunts and kills other animals for food and has adaptations that help it capture the animals it preys upon
prey An animal that a predator feeds upon
symbiosis A close relationship between two organisms in which at least ine of the organisms benefits
mutualism A type of symbiosis in wich both partners benefit from living together
commensalism A relationship between two species in which one spices benefits and the other is neither helped or harmed
parsitism A relationship in which one organism lives on or inside of another and harms it
parasite An organism that lives on or in a host and causes harm to the host
host An organism that provides a source of energy or a suitable environment for a virus or for organism to live
