What is Biology? The study of life
What is homeostasis? The body's way of keeping internal conditions stable. For example, constant body temperature, regulation of heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar, etc.
What are 2 kinds of reproduction? Sexual--requires 2 parents to combine their DNA to make an offspring. Asexual--requires only 1 parent to make a clone (copy) of itself
What is metabolism? The body's process of obtaining, processing, and using energy, as well as eliminating cellular waste
What is an example of a stimulus? Anything you have to react to--like if a bug flies in your face and you flinch away; if you touch something hot, you jerk your hand away; if you see food you get hungry and eat; when you pet a cat and it purs; there are many examples....
What is another name for the genetic code? DNA--deoxyribonucleic acid
Do groups of organisms or only individual organisms evolve over time? Groups of organisms evolve over time
What is the smallest unit of a living organism? a cell
What are characteristics that all living things have in common? They all -do homeostasis -reproduce -grow and develop -obtain and use energy (metabolism) -respond to stimulus -have a genetic code -are made of cells -as a population, evolve over time
Which level of organization contains the most organisms? biosphere
