mouth the main function of the mouth in digestion is for it to tear and grind food into pieces small enough to swallow. This is where mechanical digestion starts
esophagus the main function of the esophagus in digestion is to propel food down into the stomach
stomach the main function of the stomach in digestion is it squeezes, sloshes, and mixes the food around and adds the chemicals hydrochloric acid and pepsin to the foods which help to change the food into a thick liquid called chime.
small intestines the main function of the small intestines in digestion is chemical substances break complex sugars into simple sugars, proteins into amino acids, and emulsifies fats.
large intestines the main function of the large intestines in digestion is water is removed from the wastes and returned to the body, this is called re-absorption
rectum the main function of the rectum in digestion is when it is stretched; its nerve endings urge to defecate
anus the main function of the anus in digestion is when the wastes are removed from the rectum through this opening
salivary glands the main function of the salivary glands in digestion is they produce salivary amylase to break down the carbohydrates
liver the main function of the liver in digestion is it produces bile to emulsify the fats
gallbladder the main function of the gallbladder in digestion is it stores the bile made by the liver
pancreas the main function of the pancreas in digestion is it produces pancreatic juices to break down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
