Phlebotomy Key terms

Arteriole is a small diameter blood vessel in the microcirculation that extends and branches out from an artery. muscular walls
Artery An artery is an elastic blood vessel that transports blood away from the heart.
Atrium Upper chamber of the heart
Capillary the smallest of a body's blood vessels and are parts of the microcirculation. They are only 1 cell thick.
Cardiovascular main components of the cardiovascular system are the heart, the veins, and the blood vessels
Erythrocyte Oxygenated Red Blood Cell
Leukocyte White blood Cell- chief function is to protect the body against microorganisms causing disease
Thrombocyte Platelets
Vascular pertaining to blood vessels or indicative of a copious blood supply.
Vein a vessel in which blood flows toward the heart, in the systemic circulation carrying blood that has given up most of its oxygen.
Ventricle A cavity,in the heart. The right ventricle of the heart drives blood from the heart into the pulmonary artery, which supplies blood to the lungs. Lower chambers of heart
Venule A small vein, especially one joining capillaries to larger veins. Also called capillary vein
Systole Is the contraction phase
Diastole Relaxation phase
SA NODE Located in upper right atrium initiates heartbeat
AV NODE Located in Lower right Atrium causes right and left atria to contract.
BP Cuff is called a Sphygmomanometer
Systolic Pressure the first heart sound, top number of bp reading
Diastolic Pressure Sound no longer heard, represents the bottom number of Bp reading
