What possible side effects are there with nitrates? Hypotension, HA, flushing, dizzy, weak, nausea
Discuss nursing implications for nitrates. Monitor relief, have pt rest, monitor V/S, STORE MEDICATION IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER AND PROTECT FROM LIGHT.
Name four beta blockers. Metoprolol (Lopressor); Atenolol (Tenormin);Nadolol (Corgard);Propanolol (Inderal)
Discuss indications/actions of Beta Blockers. Decrease HR,decrease force of contraction,delays impulse conduction; reduces O2 demand; used for angina PROPHYLAXIS NOT ACUTE ATTACK
Discuss possible side effects of Beta Blockers. Fatigue,lethargy,hallucinations, impotence, BRADYCARDIA,HYPOTENSION, HF, WHEEZING.
Discuss nursing implications for Beta Blockers. Monitor apical HR,decreased BP,DONOTSTOPABRUPTLY.
Which pts does Rn have to be aware of increased likelihood of incurring adverse reactions with Beta Blockers? Pts w/Hf,bronchitis,asthma, COPD, or renal or hepatic insufficiency.
Name three Calcium Channel Blockers. Verapamil (Calan); Nifedipine HCL (Procardia);Diltiazem HCL (Carizem, Norvasc).
Discuss indications/actions for Calcium Channel Blockers. Anginal prophlyaxis,inhibits influx of calcium ions, DECREASES FORCE OF CONTRACTION, HR AND PVR (PERIPHERAL VASCULAR RESISTANCE)
Discuss possible adverse reactions of calcium channel blockers. Dizzy,hypotension,fatigue, HA,syncope,PERIPHERAL EDEMA,HYPOKALEMIA, DYSRHYTHMIA, HF
Discuss nursing implications with calcium channel blockers. Assess for decreased BP,monitor K+!;swallow pills whole,store room temp,DO NOT STOP ABRUPTLY, take 1 hr before meals/2 hrs after meals; AVOID GRAPEFRUIT.
