Terbutaline’s trade name Brethine
Class: Sympathomimetic
Description: Terbutaline is a sympathomimetic that is selective for beta 2 adrenergic receptors. It relaxes smooth muscles of the bronchial trees and peripheral vasculature. Also, relaxes uterine smooth muscles.
Indications: Bronchospasm associated with: Exercise, Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema, and Bronchial Asthma
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, Tachydysrhythmias
Adverse Reactions: Usually transient and dose related Restlessness, Anxiety, palpitations, tachycardia, Chest Pain, Bronchospasm, Coughing, Facial flushing, Nausea
Dosage/Route: 0.25mg Subcutaneous
Drug Interactions: Potentiates other sympathomimetic and MAOI’s, Beta Blockers may antagonize
