Forecasting the Weather

Weather Forecast A prediction of weather conditions over the next 3 to 5 days.
Meteorologist A person who observes and collects data on atmospheric conditions to make weather predictions.
Weather Balloon An instrument filled with air that carries equipment that measures air pressure, temperature, and relative humidity.
Thermometer An instrument that measures air temperature by heat energy.
Barometer An instrument that measures air pressure.
Anemometer An instrument that measures wind speed.
Radar Used to measure the location, movement, and amount of precipitation.
Doppler A type of radar used to track precipitation..
Satellites An instrument that orbits Earth and tracks weather.
Station model A symbol that represents the location on a map where weather information is collected and displayed.
Weather map A map that displays isobars and other symbols about weather.
Isobar A line on a map that connect points of equal air pressure.
