Somatic nervous system Part of the PNS. Connects the CNS to the skin and skeletal muscles
The PNS is made of what 2 systems Somatic and Autonomic Nervous System
Autotomic Nervous System Part of the PNS that connects the CNS to visceral organs such as the heart, stomach, intestines, various glands. Involved in unconscious activities such as breathing.
Two subdivisions of the Autonomic Nervous System Sympathetic and Parasympathetic
Awareness the persons ability to perceive environmental stimuli and body reactions and then respond with thought and action.
Glasgow Coma Scale An objective tool for assessing consciousness in clients.15 indicates fully oriented person, 7 or less is state of coma, 3 is lowest possible score and indicates a deep coma.
Orientation the persons awareness of self in relation to person, place, and time.
Intellectual Function the ability of the brain to perform thought processes.
Affect emotional response or mood
Aphasia The inability to communicate verbally - caused by the inability to form words or the inability to understand written or spoken words
Ataxia Inability to coordinate voluntary muscle action.
Four components of awareness assessment Orientation, memory, calculation, fund of knowledge
