QuestionAnswer
Light Year Distance used to measure distance between stars and galaxies; the distance light travels in one year; equals 6 trillion miles.
Parallax the apparent motion of an object against a background; a method used to determine the distance to stars; closer stars appear to move more.
Apparent brightness (magnitude) How bright stars appear from Earth
Absolute brightness (magnitude) How bright a star really is.
Why might one star appear brighter than another? It might be bigger, closer, or hotter.
Spectroscope Instrument that collects visible light to identify the gases (composition) of that star.
