Interactions in the enviroment

QuestionAnswer
the five things every living thing needs? air, water, sunlight, ideal temperture range and food.
what is a detrivore? an organism that feeds on large parts of decaying plants and anilmals.
examples of a detrivore earthworms, many types of beetles, some sea birds.
what is a decomposer an organism that consumes and breaks down dead organisms or waste matter so they can be reused in a ecosystem.
what are decomposer important they break down complex chemicals into simpler substances that other organims can use as food
examples of decomposers bacteria and fungi
what are producers an organism that contains chlorophyll and is able to make it's own food
what is cholorophyll it is a green substance that allows plants to capture from the sun
what is photosynthesis photo synthesis describes the process where plants use the sun's energy to produce a high-energy food called sugar.
what is the written word equation for photosynthesis. carbon dixode+water+sun's energy=sugar(food for plant)+oxygen
What is a consumer an organism that cannot produce it's own food energy from sunlight and therefore it relies on other organisms to consume for food in order to get captured energy.
what are the types of consumers herbivores, carnivores, omnivores and scavengers
examples of each type of consumer. herbivores e.g. deer, beaver, carnivores e.g.osprey,wolf,bass,omnivores e.g. racoons, bears, humans and scavengers e.g. coyote, ravens vultures.
what is a food chain. an organizing system that shows a feeding pathway.
what is a food web an orgnizing system that is made up of of many food chains
example of a food chain. dandelion-aphid-ladybug-robin-hawk
three types of biotic interactions mutalism, predation, competeion.
example of competetion frogs compete for the nutrients in a pond.
example of mutalism a bee gets the nectar from a flower and the bee pollunates flowers
defnition of biotic element any living thing found in the environment.
definition of organism a living thing
micro organism a living thing that can only be viewed with the help of a microscope.
species a group of similar organisms that can mate and reproduce the same type of organism.
community a group of populations of different species in a given area.
population a group of organisms of the same species that are in a given area.
abiotic element any non-living component of the enviroment
ecosystem the network of interactions that links the living and non-living componenets of an enviroment.
ecology the study of relationships between organims and abiotic elements.
habitiat an enviromen that a organism lives.
nutreint a substance that a an organism needs to grow and mantain it's body
what is competetion competeion is when more than organism tries to obtain the same basic resources. One organism usually loses and one organism usually wins
what is the importance of competetion competetion controls the amount of populations of species on earth
what is predation predation is when a predator will hunt and eat the prey. in predation one organism wins and the other loses
what is the predator prey cycle. the predator prey cycle is when the predator population starts to rise the prey population drops and then the predator population drops and then the prey population rises and then the predator population rises again and this cycle almost never stops.
what is mutalism interactions between two indvidual species that benefits both of those invidual species

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
