Influx The mouth of the stream
Ecological succession The process of change in an ecosystem brought about by the progressive replacement of one community by another until a stable climax is settled.
Primary succession The changes that occur in an area where no ecosystem has existed before
Water Table The top of the saturated zone, or depth to the groundwater in an aquifer
Secondary succession The changes that occur after a disturbance in an ecosystem
Competition The struggle between organisms for the limited resources in a habitat
Climax community The final stage of succession
Weathering The physical and chemical processes that break down rock at Earth's surface
Pioneer species The first species to populate an area
Stable ecosystem When its in equilibrium
