DEFINE FILTRATION? Definition: Glomerular filtration is the transfer of fluid and solutes from the glomerular capillaries along a pressure gradient into Bowman's capsule. ...
DEFINE REABSORPTION? Absorbing again. For example, the kidney selectively reabsorbs substances such as glucose, proteins, and sodium which it had already secreted into the renal tubules. These reabsorbed substances return to the blood.
DEFINE SECRETION? A process by which substances are produced and discharged from a cell, gland, or organ for a particular function in the organism or for excretion.
DEFINE MICTURITION? Urination, the act of urinating
DEFINE DIURESIS? The increased formation of urine by the kidney.
DEFINE ALDOSTERONE? A corticosteroid hormone that stimulates absorption of sodium by the kidneys and so regulates water and salt balance
DEFINE ANTIDUIURECTIC HORMONE? ADH A peptide molecule that is released by the pituitary gland at the base of the brain after being made nearby (in the hypothalamus). ADH has an antidiuretic action that prevents the production of dilute urine (and so is antidiuretic).
