magnetism

QuestionAnswer
Lode Stone Natural magnetic rock found on earth.
Magnet Anything that attracts Iron(Fe), Nickel(Ni), or Cobalt(Co) All have Two Poles (north and south)
Poles Something all magnets have. Also poles have a north and south side. opposites attracts and likes repel.
Magnetic field lines never cross each other. the closer together the lines are the stronger the magnetic force is.
Magnetic Induction is the process of creating a Magnet
Temporary Magnet created by placing iron, nickel, or cobalt substance into the magnetic field of a strong magnet.
Permanent Magnet created the same way but when the material contains something other then iron, nickel, or cobalt. last a really long time.
ALNICO Aluminum, Nickel,and Cobalt.
COW Cobalt and Tungsten.
Magnetosphere earth's magnetic field. Goes from north pole to south pole.
Electromagnetism the idea that electricity creates magnetic fields; and magnetic fields create electricity.
Electromagnet A magnet that can be turned on and off.
Static Electricity Transfer of charge from one subject to another.
Lightning Ultimate static discharge.
What are the three materials attracted to a magnet? iron, nickel and/or cobalt
How does a compass work? the needle is a magnet with a north and south pole. Magnetosphere is the earths magnetic force so since opposites attract the north pole would point towards the south of the earth and the south pole would point to the north part of the earth.
Describe how Lightning forms first water drops rub against ice crystals. then one area of the cloud becomes negative and the other part becomes positive. then the result is static discharge.
