What is the relationship between the silica content of magma and the explosiveness of a volcanic eruption? The more silica, the larger the explosion.
Which type of eruptions are characterized by very fluid lava and very little explosive activity? They are also the quietest. Hawaiian eruptions.
What is a Strombolian eruption? A semi-violent eruption. They were named after the Stromboli volcano in Italy, they have thicker lava flows and some small explosions.

This causes rocks to melt and form magma? Heat and pressure
Places where most volcanoes occur? Plate boundaries
These two factors control whether an eruption will be explosive or quiet? Water vapor and silica

Magma that is high in silica and produces explosive eruptions is called? granitic
Bits of rock dropped from the air during the eruption of a cinder cone volcano are called? tephra
