| Pharyngitis:Physical Findings | Erythema. Tonsillar hypertrophy w/ or w/o exudates. Viral infections: rhinorrhea, cough, conjunctivitis. Bacterial: fever, systemic signs of infection. |
| Pharyngitis: Physical Findings | Paratonsillar abscess is an extension of tonsilitis and presents with high fever, severe pain and have trismus (inability to open the mouth, dsyphagia, and impaired respiratory function). |
| Pharyngitis: Physical Findings | In streptococcal infections complications may be present as: scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, or acute glomerulonephritis. |
| Peritonsillar Abscess: | Acute infection that requires immediate identification and treatment. |
| Peritonsillar Abscess: Symptoms | Abscess and cellulitis. Odynophagia (painful swallowing). Trismus (spasm of the masticatory muscles and difficulty opening the mouth). And medial deviation of the soft palate and peritonsillar fold. |
