Biology Study of life.

Cell The level at which properties of life emerge and performs all activities required for life.
Scientific Method Observation, Interpretation, Experimentation, Verification, Prediction
Matter Anything that occupies space and has mass.
Elements Substances that cannot be broken down into other substances.
Compound Substances that contain 2 or more elements in a fixed ratio.
Atom Smallest unit of matter that still retains properties of an element.
Nucleus Atom's central core.
Proton (+) charge
Atomic Number Number of protons determines which element it is.
Mass Measure of the amount of material
Mass Number Sum of the number of protons and neutrons.
Neutron No charge
Isotopes Equal in protons and electrons but different number of neutrons.
Radioactive Isotopes Unstable
Electrons (-) charge
Chemical Bond Ionic, Covalent, Hydrogen
Ions Atoms that are electrically charged from gaining or losing electrons.
Covalent Bond 2 atoms share one or more pairs of outer-shell electrons.
Hydrogen Bond Weak bond.
Polarity Opposite charge on both ends.
Acid Releases H+
Base Accepts H+ and removes it.
pH Scale Measure of H+ concentrate
Buffers Maintains pH
Oxidation Losing an Electron
Reduction Gaining an Electron
Hydrolysis To break with water. (water-splitting)
Water Universal Solvent
Ionic Bond Attraction between oppositely charge ions. End in -ide.
