Respiratory System The system that takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the body.
Cellular Respiration cellular process where oxygen is used to change nutrients into energy
Trachea Windpipe: tube that carries air to the lungs
Bronchi Two tubes leading from the trachea to the lungs
Lungs Main organs of the respiratory system
Air Sacs In the lungs. This is where oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide (waste) exits.
Diaphragm A muscle that is found under the lungs and allows the lungs to expand and relax.
Circulatory System The system that delivers nutrients and oxygen to and picks up wastes from the body cells
Circulation The process of moving blood throughout the body.
Transport To move from one place to another.
Heart Organ that pumps blood throughout the body, made of cardiac muscle
Artery Blood vessel that carries blood AWAY from the heart
Vein Blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart
Capillary The smallest blood vessel - goes to every cell in the body. Connects arteries and veins.
Red blood cells, White blood cells, Platelets and Plasma The four parts that make up our blood.
Red Blood Cells Blood cells that carry nutrients, oxygen, and wastes
White Blood Cells Blood cells that help your body fight diseases and infection.
Platelets The part of blood that helps your body heal cuts and stop bleeding (clot).
Excretory System The system that removes waste from the body.
Excretion The process by which wastes are removed from the body.
Endocrine System The body system that produces chemical messengers called hormones.
Hormones Chemicals that help control and regulate certain body activities - examples: adrenaline, testosterone and estrogen.
