Intro to Biology

Lesson 1.1 - A

QuestionAnswer
control All variables except the one being tested must remain constant
control group The group that experiences constant variables
dependent variable The observed variable that changes in response to the independent variable
experiment Collect data or evidence designed to support the proposed answer
experimental group The group that the variable factor is introduced to
hypothesis must explain the observations must be testable should predict future findings
independent variable The variable that is deliberately changed
validity The more often a hypothesis is tested and supported by the data, the more scientists trust it
theory When a hypothesis is tested several times and the data seems to support it, the hypothesis becomes a theory.
