QuestionAnswer
Tall Tale A story that includes exaggerations, bigger than life characters and events
Myth A story that answers questions about things that people cannot explain. It may include characters such as Gods and goddesses and journeys that heroes go on called heroic quests.
Fantasy Contains unrealistic or unworldly elements and includes elements that are impossible such as talking to animals or magical powers.
Science Fiction A type of fantasy that is based on current or future scientific and technological developments.
Short Story Has a plot, characters and a setting and are shorter and less complicated than a novel.
Realistic fiction Drawn from the writers imagination using made up characters but could happen in real life.
Historical Fiction Drawn from the writers imagination but is true to life in some period of the past.
Mystery A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story.
Folk Tale A story or legend handed down from generation to generation usually by oral retelling.
Fable A short story that teaches a lesson and has a moral to the story and uses animals that talk and act like humans.
Poetry Verse written to create response of thought and feeling from the reader. It often uses rhythm and rhyme.
Fairy Tale A kind of folktale or fable which includes witches, giants,queens,elves,dragons,talking animals,ogres,fairies,etc... Marvelous and magical things happen to characters.
