NURS232 UNIT I-VI

Altered Immune ResponsesHypersensitivity Disorders

QuestionAnswer
hypersensitivity disorder is one in which the immune system overreacts or fails to maintain self-tolerance
injury to normal cells occur due to release of vasoactive substances, lysis/phagocytosis of cells, activation of inflammatory and cytolytic components of the complement system and/or release of proteolytic enzymes, cytokines and other mediators of tissue injury and inflammation
the classifications of hypersensitivity reactions are immediate and delayed
the immediate hypersensitivity reaction is also known as humoral immunity
immediate/humoral immunity includes type I, II, & III
what antibodies are involved in a type I reaction IgE
what antibodies are involved in both type II and type III reactions IgG & IgM
type I reactions are known as IgE mediated
type II reactions are known as cytotoxic
type III reactions are Immune complex
type IV are delayed hypersensitivity reactions
type I includes what antigens? exogenous pollen, food, drugs, dust
type II includes what antigens? those on the cell surface of RBCs; basement membranes
type III includes what antigens? extracellular fungal, viral, bacterial
type IV includes what antigens intracellular or extracellular
what antibody is involved in a type I reaction? IgE
what antibody is involved in a type II reaction? IgM & IgG
what antibody is involved in a type III reaction IgM & IgG
what antibody is involved in a delayed hypersensitivity reaction? none
what antibody is involved in a type IV reaction? none
which type of hypersensitivity reaction is allergic rhinitis & asthma? type I: IgE mediated
which type of reaction is associated with transfusions type II: Cytotoxic
in which types of reactions is complement involved? type II & type III
complement lysis happens in which type of reaction type II: cytotoxic & type III: immune complex
for what type of reaction would a wheal & flare skin test be used to detect? type I: IgE mediated
fungi & viruses are responsible for setting off what type of reaction? type III: immune complex reactions
what reaction type does not include involvement of an antibody? type IV: delayed hypersensitivity

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:
