Science Quiz 3

QuestionAnswer
Law of Definite Propotions A chemicl conmpoun is always made up of the same elements in the same proportions.
Electrons A negatively charged particle with an extremely small mass. Their speed and distance are jut right to keep them from being sucked into the nucleus.
Nucleus The center of an atom with contains protons and neutrons.
Energy Levels A region in an atom that contains electrons of a certain energy.
Neutrons A neutral particle in the nucleas of an atom, with approximately the same mass as a proton. Unstable particle that explodes in 17 minutes when removed from the nucleus, but is stable in the nulceus.
Protons A positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom; 1836 times heavier than an electron. They stick together when they should be repelling each other with great force.
Planetary Model Created by Bohr. Electrons exist in specific engery levels. Represents the location of each electron as a general and indefinite,
Quantum Model Represents the location of electrons being present in cloud-like orbitals
Orbitals Regions of most probable location electrons.
Atomic Mass The total masses of the particles in an atom.
Atomic Mass Unit (amu) A unit used to measure the mass of an atom; one-twelth of the mass of a carbon012 atom
Atomic Number The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.
Mass Number The sum of the protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom; also known as atomic mass.
Isotopes Different forms of the same element that have different numbers of neutrons
Isotopic Notation Shows both the atomic number and the mass number of the atom i.e.(13C4, 14C6)
Atoms Never wear out. Function flawlessly for thousands of years. Are continuously recycled.
Democritus Theory-All matter is made up of atoms. Key Terms- Atom=indivisble(undividable)
Bohr Theory- Planetary Model Key Terms- Electrons exist in specific energy levels
Various Scientists Theory-Quantum Model Key Terms-Energy levels=Electron Cloud. Position of electron is uncertain.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
