Human Anatomy Terms

inferior a body part is below another part or is toward the feet
anterior (ventral) toward the front
posterior (dorsal) toward the back

lateral means toward the side with respect to the midline
proximal a body part that is closer to a point of attachment or closer to the trunk of the body than another part
distal a body part is farther from the point of attachment or farther from the trunk of the body than another part
superficial (peripheral) situation near the surface. means outward or near the surface
deep parts that are more internal
sagittal lengthwise cut that divides the body into right and left halves
transverse (cross section) cut that divides the body into superior and inferior portions
coronal (frontal) cut that divides the body into anterior and posterior portions
