| Ecosystem | a system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment. |

| Adaptation | the ability of a species to survive in a particular ecological niche, esp. because of alterations of form or behavior brought about through natural selection. |

| Consumers | an organism, usually an animal, that feeds on plants or other animals. |
| Producers | an organism, as a plant, that is able to produce its own food from inorganic substances. |
| Food Chain | the chain from a food source to the ultimate consumer. |
| Organism | a form of life composed of mutually interdependent parts that maintain various vital processes. |
| Food Web | a series of organisms related by predator-prey and consumer-resource interactions; the entirety of interrelated food chains in an ecological community. |
