Atmosphere A mixture of gases that surrounds Earth, it extends outward about 310 miles from Earth's surface
What are some of the gases in the Atmosphere? nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, carbon dioxide, argon
What are some of the small particles in the atmosphere? dust, volcanic ash, smoke, and sea salt
What are the layers of the atmosphere? Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere
Troposphere Water vapor is primarily present in this layer, as the altitude increases in this layer the atmospheric pressure and temperature decrease
Stratosphere Temperature rises with altitude due to a layer of ozone in the middle of this layer
Ozone layer absorbes Ultra Violet Rays (UV rays)
Mesosphere coldest layer in the atmosphere, extends up to about 50 miles
Thermosphere farthest from earth's surface
How are earth's layers classified? four main layers divided by altitude and temperature
