Male Reproductive System

QuestionAnswer
Testes Two glands that produce sperm (300 million at a time) and testosterone.
Sperm Male cells that join with a female's egg to produce an embryo.
Testosterone A hormone that controls a male's bodily changes as he goes through puberty.
Scrotum A sack-like pouch that protects the testes and controls their temperature (2-3 degrees Celsius less than body).
Epididymis Shaped like a comma, located on the side of each testicle, sperm matures and learns to swim.
Vas Deferens Two long, thick-walled muscular tubes that connect to the epidymis and the ejaculatory duct.
Seminal Vesicles Mixes sperm in with fructose as it goes into the ejaculatory duct.
Prostate Gland A plum-sized gland that mixes the sperm & fructose in with various vitamins and enzymes to make semen.
Semen Sperm, fructose, vitamins, and enyzmes.
Urethra The tube inside the penis that semen is passed through the ejaculatory duct and that urine is passed through the bladder.
Ejaculatory Duct A small duct that connects the vas deferens to the urethra.
Penis The sexual organ that is used to have sexual intercourse with, to pass urine and semen through, varies in size, but on average is 3-4 unerect.
Foreskin A flap of skin meant to protect the tip of the penis.
Circumcision Surgically removing the foreskin.
Erection When the penis's fibers fill with blood and the penis becomes hard.
Masturbation Stimulating sex with the genitals for pleasure.
Sexual Respones Cycle The four phases of sexual arousal in a man.
Excitement Phase Increase in blood flow, heart rate, and breathing rate.
Sexual Intercourse The entry of a man's penis into a woman's vagina.
Plateau Phase Man's muscles grow tense and sexual excitement builds.
Orgasmic Phase Orgasm and ejaculation.
Resolution Phase A man's body returns to normal/neutral state.
Refractory Period A period of time that during which, it is physically impossible to experience another erection.
Nocturnal Emission Getting an erection and ejaculating while asleep.
Jock Itch A rash in the male genital area that thrives in damp, dirty environments.
Hernia A weakness and tear in the abdominal wall, causing part of the intestines to seep out.
Sterility Not capable of biological reproduction.
