atoms & periodic table

Atomic Number Used to identify the atom/element. Represents the number of protons in that atom.
ATOM The smallest unit of all matter.
Proton The positively charged particles found in the nucleus.
Period The name given to the rows of the periodic table.
Electron Cloud The region around the nucleus of the atom made up of mostly empty space and electrons.
Products In a chemical equation, these represent what is produced during the reaction.
Electron These are gained, lost, or shared when chemically combining with another atom.
Ion Atype of atom created when electrons are lost or gained. Makes the atom charged.
Neutral The overall charge of an atom of the periodic table.
Neutrons These subatomic particles are found by subtracting the atomic number from the atomic mass.
