Indications Renal pts in cardiac arrest; Antidote for calcium channel blocker toxicity (OD) Heperkalemia; Hypocalcaemia e.g after blood transfusion and to prevent hypertensive effects of calcium channel blocking agents ie verapamil and diltiazem.
Contradictions VF during cardiac resuscitation; in pts with digitalis toxicity; hypercallcemia
Precautions In pts taking digitalis may precipitate digitalis toxicity
Side Effects Decreased heart rate- may cause asystole; Deceased in BP; Metallic taste; Severe local abscess, narcosis and sloughing following IM use or IV infiltration
Dosage/Admin Renal failure Adult Asystole 1 gm SLOW IVP (Rx Box has 1 10ml prefilled syringe contains 1 gm) ADULT CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER OVERDOSE: 0.5gm SLOW IVP repeat on physician order
