Two ways paleomagnetism gave Earth scientists evidence for plate tectonics. -Magnetic material was 'pointing' in weird directions, when it should point north -Magnetism in rocks of diff. ages on the same continent were not consistent
What evidence indicates that oceanic crust is subducted? Benioff Zones: Earthquake foci(focuses)near ocean trenches plot along a descending line. Earthquakes can only happen in brittle rocks.
Whats the difference between Basalt, Andesite, and Granite? (Where do they form?) Basalt:runny;formed when melting of pure oceanic crust;Most silica Granite: thick &gooey;formed by melting pure cont. crust;Least silica Andesite: mixture of both
