QuestionAnswer
Eukaryotes Cells that contain nuclei
Prokaryotes Cells that do not contain nuclei
Cytoplasm Portion of the cell outside the nucleus
Cell Division The process by which a cell divides int two new daughter cells
Mitosis The part of eukaryotic cell division during which the cell nucleus divides
Cytokinesis Division of the cytoplasm
Chromatids One of two identical "sister" parts of duplicated chromosome
Centromere Where the chromatids of a chromosomes are attached
Cell Cycle The series of events that cells go through as they grow and divide
Interphase The "in-between" period of growth in the cell cycle
Prophase The chromosomes become visable and the centriols separate and take up positions on the opposite sides of the nucleus
Metaphase The cromesomes line up across the center cell
Anaphase The centromeres that join the sister chromatids split, allowing the sister chromatids to separate and become individual chromesomes
Telophase Chromosomes begin to disperse into a tangle of dense material
Cytokinesis Division of the cytoplasm
Cancer A disorder in which some of the body's own cells lose the dability to control growth
Cohesion An attracion between the molecules of the same substance
Adhesion An attraction between molecules of different substances

Acid Any compound that forms H+ ions in a solution
Base A compound that produces hydroxide ions (-OH)
Bufffer Weak acids and bases that cause sudden changes in pH
Monomer Small unit that forms polymers
Carbohydrates Compounds made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen(main sorce of energy for living orgonisums)
Monosaccharides Single sugar molecules
Lipids Made up of carbon and hydrogen (used to store energy)
Nucleic acid macromolecules containing hydrogen, oxegen, nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus (stores and transmit hereditary info)
Proteins Macromolecules that contain nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
