Chapter 4 Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
fusion A process in which nuclei of atoms are joined.
main sequence The band on the Hertsprung-Russell (H-R) diagram where ninety percent of stars are found.
nebula A huge, cool, dark cloud of gases and dust where stars are formed.
nova A star that briefly becomes thousands of times brighter than normal.
supernova A supergiant star that explodes.
galaxy A large system of stars.
galactic clusters A grouping of galaxies.
refracting telescope A telescope that uses glass lenses to gather light and magnify objects.
reflecting telescope A telescope that uses mirrors to gather light and magnify images.
