How a woman perceives or interprets pain during childbirth is influenced by a variety of physiologic, psychologic, emotional, social, cultural and environmental factors.
All childbirth methods attempt to reduce fear and tension and eliminate pain by increasing a woman's knowledge of the labor and birth process, enhancing her self-confidence and sense of control, preparing a support person, and training the woman in physical conditioning and relaxation breathing.
When is a pudendal nerve block given? Late in second stage of labor.
Which regional anesthesia effects both movement and sensation? Spinal
What is the most effective pharmacologic pain relief method for labor currently available? Epidural
What is the result of sympathetic blockade that occurs as an outcome of epidural? Severe hypotension
What is given during the first stage of labor to relieve pain from uterine contractions and cervical dilation? Paracervical block
Why are laboring women predisposed to hypothermia during labor and immediately after birth? Because of vasodilation that normally occurs during pregnancy and the effects of analgesia and anesthesia.
