What is a mineral? A natural occurring solid consisting of a single element or compound.
What is an element? Pure substance which cannot be broken down into simpler substances by ordinary chemical means.
What is a compound? A substance made of two or more elements that have been chemically joined or bonded together.
Which word is when atoms are arranged in a pattern that is repeated over and over again? Crystalline
What is a mineral that contains silicon and oxygen, makes up 90% of the Earth's crust, example Feldspar, Biotite, Mica, and Quartz? Silicate Minerals
What is a crystal? A solid geometrical form of minerals produced by a repeating pattern that is present throughout the minerl.
What are the classes of non-silicate minerals? Native elements, Carbonates, Halides, Oxides, Sulfates, and Sulfides.
How can you classify minerals? Appearance/ Color, Streak, Luster, Hardness, Cleavage, Fracture, Density, Special Properties
The process of returning land to its original state after mining is completed Reclamation
How are minerals formed? Evaporating Salt Water, Limestones, Metamorphic rocks, Hot-water solutions, Hot-Water Solutions, Pegmatites, Plutons
