| Giving recognition | "I see you made your bed"-"I see you made a ceramic pot in crafts today" |
| Giving broad openings | "What would you like to talk about today"-"Tell me what you are thinking" |
| Offering general leads | "Yes I see"-"Go on..."-"And after that?" |
| Placing the event in time or sequence | "What seemed to lead up to...?"-"Was this before or after...?"-"When did this happen?" |
| Making observations | "You seem tense."-"I noticed you are pacing alot"-"You seem to be uncomfortable when you..." |
